Andersen Festival

Hans Christian Andersen, the famous Danish writer of fairy tales including ‘The Little Mermaid’, discovered the bay of Sestri Levante during a trip to Liguria and fell in love with it.

Since 1967, the Andersen-Baia delle Favole Prize has been named after him and is one of the longest-running and most famous literary competitions in Italy and abroad.

It is dedicated to unpublished fairy tales and everyone can participate: children, professional and amateur writers, and those who love telling fairy tales through illustration.

On the occasion of the award ceremony, the Andersen Festival, the most important Italian festival dedicated to fairy tales and theatre, is also held annually in Sestri Levante.

The city is transformed into a magical and surprising place, enlivened by international artists offering a rich programme of shows of different genres. All performances are free of charge, reservation is compulsory.
